Outreach Coordinator Intern

Hours: 20-30 (depending on availability)
Compensation:

Unpaid internship. Gas/travel expenses as approved by National Volunteer Director.

Supervisor: DC Green Festival® Coordinator
Estimated Start Date: July 15-August 1, 2009
End Date: October 16, 2009
Location: Washington, D.C.

The Washington, DC Outreach Coordinator is an unpaid internship and will report directly to the Washington, DC Regional Director in Washington, DC and the National Volunteer Director in Asheville, North Carolina but will work out of Washington, DC. The Washington, DC Outreach Coordinator will implement an on-the-ground outreach and awareness campaign directed at drawing in attendees and volunteers for the Green Festival.

Pre-event Responsibilities:

• Place outreach materials (flyers, posters, post cards, program guides)
through the city and region to promote the festival, attract attendees,
and recruit volunteers for the festival.
• Identify and attend outreach events, make phone calls, send e-mails, and
visit universities, groups, and other non-profit organizations as part of your
outreach efforts.
• Coordinate distribution of festival and volunteer materials & flyers for
Green Festival with Regional Director and National Volunteer Director.


On-site Operational Management:

• Assist National Volunteer Director with volunteer management and setup
needs in days leading up to the event.
• Assist National Volunteer Director with staff and volunteer management
throughout the entire event.
• Work with other onsite event staff and managers to oversee and direct
volunteers.
• Manage volunteer registration and facilitate the positioning of volunteers
into assigned areas.
• Provide on-site training of staff and volunteers throughout the event.

Post Event Responsibilities:

• Assist with thank you letters and volunteer appreciation post event.
• Finalize work, finish all correspondence and follow up, organize files and
prepare information for next year.

Required Skill, Experience and Knowledge:

Grassroots outreach and volunteer recruitment experience in the Washington,
DC area is preferred; experience with youth and/or religious communities
preferred; connectivity within the community and a working knowledge of
valuable outreach and recruiting methods; willingness to distribute flyers
throughout the city and surrounding region; willingness to attend recruiting and
outreach events; ability to work independently with little supervision; willingness
to work cooperatively with Regional Director and National Volunteer Director
outreach efforts and in securing volunteers for the Green Festival and providing
on-site and post event support to National Volunteer Director.
