Are you an aspiring web developer and want to put your skills to “good” use? Green America (www.greenpamericatoday.org) is a nonprofit, membership organization whose mission is to harness economic power—the strength of consumers, investors, businesses, and the marketplace—to create a socially just and environmentally sustainable society. And we are looking for an intern to help us use the power of the internet and electronic communication to empower consumers and businesses in this mission.
The Web Development intern will be responsible for the maintenance and enhancements of internal applications, changes to and creation of existing and new content pages on our website, production of “Take Action” campaigns on our website, and user support regarding web content development and internal application usage. Any new content will be provided by the Online Editor.
Furthermore, the intern will work with the Senior Web Developer to investigate and solve problems that come up on the website and to take on various site tasks and projects which may include investigating and creating web performance reports and making enhancements to or re-doing existing sections of our website. This would be an opportunity for the intern to take on projects of re-design and additional functionality.
The work environment at Green America is friendly, open, and loosely structured. The intern must be comfortable working both as a team member and independently, managing deadlines and workload while new tasks continually surface.
Core Responsibilities
- Make enhancements to existing web pages and create new web pages with ColdFusion functionality.
- Implement needed enhancements or fixes to internal applications (usually Coldfusion).
- Produce monthly actions on our website (“Take Action”) using HTML and ColdFusion.
- Investigate occasional issues on website.
- Assist users with web content development or application usage, if needed.
- Compile and distribute web traffic reports for staff.
Qualifications
- Web development experience with ColdFusion
- Hand-coding - strong HTML skills (XHTML)
- Dreamweaver or similar web application development tool
- CSS
- Experienced in testing web applications during development.
- Excellent detail management skills.

Experience working with a team and on own with minimal continued assistance
- Flexibility in dealing with changing priorities and multiple tasks.
Desirable
- Course work in Computer Science, Information Services/Systems, Web Development, Online Marketing or related area of study
- Interested in social and environmental justice
- Personable with a sense of humor.
