Seattle Green Festival™ Tops 30,000
Our first-ever Seattle Green Festival was a huge success, attracting 30,082 attendees. The weekend was profiled on 106 TV and radio spots along with feature articles in the local newspapers and USA Today. We recovered 97% of the waste that was created at the festival through recycling, composting and gray water recovery.
The 350 exhibitors reported healthy sales and enthusiastic crowds. Eileen Thournir, president of Enlightened Play, sent us this email: “The Seattle Green Festival has been a tremendous experience, it was a great venue for selling our game….it was one big huge hug…I am very optimistic about all the Green Kids at the festival…I was even lectured to about Monsanto by a 7 yr old… now I know the world is going to be in safe hands…congrats to all the parents who are raising such enlightened kids.”

This guide shows consumers and businesses how to track the supply chain of products and how to support the best companies and avoid the worst. The Web site answers most frequently asked questions about sweatshops and also features fair-trade members of our Green Business Network™. It also includes anti-sweatshops legislative campaigns and suggested purchasing policies for schools and universities.

Take Action on Mutual Funds
Ten of the largest mutual fund families are acting as if climate change won’t affect our planet, the economy, and their investors. Green America is calling on American Century, American Funds, Ameriprise, Dreyfus, Fidelity, ING, Morgan Stanley, Oppenheimer, Pioneer and Vanguard to change their climate resolutions. They have a history of investing in some of the worst climate-change-causing companies and as shareholders, mutual funds have a right and responsibility to compel these companies to improve! These resolutions call for companies to: disclose their climate emissions, explain the effects these emissions will have on their business, and develop a plan for reducing those emissions. We ask all our business members to tell these funds to get in step with their more responsible peers.
