Green America sees 10-Fold Increase in Green Business Growth
The Green America Green Business Network was launched 25 years ago with a mission: to help businesses with deep social and environmental commitments emerge and succeed. From a solid beginning that brought 345 businesses together, the network has now expanded to encompass nearly 5,000 members, a growth rate of about 1,350 percent.
After a quarter-century of building the first, largest, and most diverse network of green businesses in the U.S., and developing and fostering a national market of conscious consumers, our astronomical growth reveals the transformation of American business.

The Stimulus Package Preserves our Green Future
Green America called on our members to back a Green New Deal by contacting their representatives to support bold action through President Obama’s economic stimulus package. We asked for retention and expansion of major proposals that would advance health care, education, and a clean energy future, as well as create millions of jobs. We also voiced opposition to nuclear and coal power.
Thanks to the actions of many, President Obama's stimulus package represents a significant down payment on America's green future. The final version allocates $500 billion in funding for green jobs that includes:
- $9.5 billion for energy efficiency;
- $6 billion in loan guarantees for solar and wind projects;
- $11 billion to modernize the electric grid;
- $17.5 billion for investing in public transportation (including Amtrak and high-speed rail); and
- $50 billion in nuclear energy loan guarantees OUT of the bill.
