Faces of the Green Pages: Blue Summit Financial Group

Like many of the long-time members of our Green Business Network, Judy Seid has seen her vision change since the first inception of her green business. "Originally I viewed myself being a personal financial advisor with a small private practice," says Judy. "Now I envision Blue Summit Financial Group as a larger firm and along with other SRI firms being the ‘gold standard’ of investing."

Green Americans agree that Blue Summit is setting the standard, voting Judy and her investment firm into one of the top-ten slots in our 2009 People's Choice Award contest—a first for socially responsible investing (SRI) firm. In honor of this achievement, we asked Judy to tell us more about the evolution of her business, how she got her start, and recently being featured on the cover of a magazine.

Green for All Announces the Portland Project and New Recovery Resources

Cities and states are beginning to report how many jobs have been created through funding from President Obama's Recovery Act. Green For All states that “with just this first small glimpse, and less than 50% of the recovery money distributed, we are already seeing amazing victories for green jobs from across the country.”

Phaedra Ellis-Lamkins, CEO of Green For All, was at our Green Business Conference to report on the results and the new Portland Project. According to Ellis-Lamkins, “Green For All is partnering with the City of Portland on a landmark project. In using Recovery funds they will create thousands of good clean-energy jobs for low-income workers, weatherize 100,000 homes, and launch the first model of paying for home weatherization through utility bills.”

Green for All also released the Recovery Resources series to help businesses/organizations understand the Recovery Act and how to put it to work in their communities. These resources help people understand key components of the Recovery Act, including what funds are available and how funds may be used, and how cities/states and other entities can maximize the benefit to their communities.
