Schools Adopt Shorter, Greener Weeks
NPR reports that 100 school systems across the country will switch to a 4-day week this fall. “As this switch takes place, parents may begin to pressure employers to make the switch as well, possibly resulting in a cascade of 4-day work weeks across the country.” This could be a good, green thing – with more people working four-day weeks, there will be less commuting and less energy used to power buildings.
LG Electronics Recycles
LG Electronics has launched a free recycling program. Like its predecessor Sony, LGE is partnering with WM Recycle America to create 160 drop off locations. The sites will take all LGE, Zenith and Goldstar electronics, including televisions, monitors, audio equipment, video cassette players, recorders and DVD players.
Washington DC Schools teach Green Collar Skills
Washington DC schools will begin teaching environmentally friendly construction techniques to prepare students for work in the emerging green sector. More than 100 students will participate in the program that was first introduced at Cardozo Senior High School’s Academy of Construction and Design.
According to Green For All, “As green building standards are increasingly prevalent, a skilled work force knowledgeable in such construction is required. These students will leave equipped with the skills necessary to enter the green workforce directly after graduation.”
NYC Fashion Designers Learn Green Cleaning
