Renewable Energy Tops 10 % of Domestic U.S. Energy Production

 

According to the US Energy Information Administration, renewable energy accounted for more than 10% of the domestically-produced energy used in the United States the first six months of 2008. The US consumed 50.673 quads of energy, of which 3.066 was from domestically-produced renewable energy, a much higher percentage than nuclear and fossil fuel interests continue to circulate.

Sustainability Outperforms

Companies that devoted management time to corporate responsibility and sustainable business practices outperformed the market by between 2.2% and 7.7% in the previous six years, new research has shown.

Urban GoGreen Tour and Expo


 

 

The UrbanGoGreen Tour and Expo, a joint venture of social entrepreneur Osiris James and several social/environmental groups, will launch its national tour in Harlem on Saturday, October 25, 2008. The tour features a sustainable product expo, concert and green jobs fair. According to James, “In addition to promoting sustainability, recycling and carbon footprint reduction in urban America, we focus on what today’s under-served urban dwellers really need--jobs and opportunities to make and save money.”

Clinton Global Initiative Active amid Economic Turmoil

 

Despite the crisis on Wall Street, the Clinton Global Initiative has managed to ensure funding for its four main areas of focus: education, energy and climate change, global health and poverty alleviation. Rather than utilizing traditional grant-making processes, the Clinton Global Initiative gathers the world’s most influential corporations and organizations to enact solutions that solve the world’s largest problems. Under commitment to CGI, PepsiCo Foundation will provide a $4.1 million grant to the WaterPartners Initiative to provide microloans to 120,000 community-members in India to increase access to safe clean water.

PG&E’s Peter Darbee keynotes at Clean-Tech Investor Summit

College Sustainability Report Card

Green Festival intern, Margaret Imholt’s work at American University’s student run, EcoSense, were responsible for raising the school’s sustainability grade from a D+ to a B-.  Margaret serves as VP of EcoSense, a group that aggressively lobbied for the University’s signing of the President’s Climate Commitment and the Tolloires declaration, a ten-point action plan to increase the university’s sustainability!
