Obama Embraces “Green Path” in Stimulus Plan
On December 2, Bloomberg ran an article that president-elect Barack Obama is considering a stimulus package that will include a heavy dose of spending on environmentally friendly projects aimed at creating ‘green-collar jobs’ and saving energy. Obama advisor Jared Bernstein says the money could help fund a least $50 billion in environmentally sound infrastructure projects that could be up and running within a few months. Among the steps along the ‘green path’ Bernstein said could be a requirement that repairs made to public buildings must be environmentally friendly and $900 million must be used to weatherize 1 million homes. (Bernstein spoke at the Washington DC Green Festival about the strategy.)
Amory Lovins Named Among America’s Best Leaders
US News named Amory Lovins, co-founder of the Rocky Mountain Institute one of America’s Best Leaders of 2008. Lovins founded RMI 26 years ago as a ‘think and do tank.’ The consulting firm has worked with more than 80 Fortune 500 companies, including Chevron. Their research has produced breakthroughs from lightweight fiber composites to improved hybrid electric drive systems.
Chicago Climate Action Plan Launches
Chicago’s Mayor Richard Daley has furthered his administration’s commitment to the environment by establishing the Chicago Climate Action Plan. The Plan outlines a bold set of initiatives that will help the city slow the effects of climate change, and calls for a strong commitment from government, as well as from every individual and business in the city. Daley’s goal to make Chicago a shining example of how a large city can live in harmony with its environment is an exciting development in governmental commitment to environmental responsibility.
Mayor Daley will kick-off the Chicago Green Festival™, May 16-17.

Natural Marketing Institute produces 7th LOHAS report
The 7th annual LOHAS report, produced by the Natural Marketing Institute will be published in January 2009. Full of information about on the green marketplace and marketing opportunities, the report analyzes consumer behaviors, attitudes, product/service usage, psychographics, lifestyles and demographics.

Procter and Gamble Release 10th Annual Sustainability Report
Proctor and Gamble released its 10th annual sustainability report. The report outlines the company’s progress toward its sustainability goals which include “measurable objectives for developing sustainable innovation products, and improving the environmental profile of P&G operations.” Some highlights include P&G’s reduced energy consumption by 6%, cutting carbon emissions by 8%, and a 51% reduction in water consumption.
