In June 2005, the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine filed suit against Kraft, General Mills, Dannon, McNeill Nutritionals, Lifeway Foods, the National Dairy Council, Dairy Management Inc., and the International Dairy Foods Association for airing commercials that credit the consumption of dairy products with increased weight loss. Plaintiffs in the case argue that such claims lack scientific backing and are irresponsible. Kraft Foods was dropped from a lawsuit surrounding false advertising of dairy products after agreeing to stop running the ads.
