• Southwest Airlines has taken several steps to become more enivromentally friendly. Southwest altered operating procedures to lower fuel consumption. Some tactics include short turn over time, lifejackets (not required for domestic airlines) so they could fly more direct paths over water, and using electric power on tools such as baggage belts. In addition, Southwest Airlines made an effort to reduce paper was by being the first airline to offer paperless ticketing. Southwest Airlines also created Green Team comprised of employee volunteers that work to create different ways to make Southwest Airlines enviromentally sustainable.

• Southwest Airlines just completed its first RPN (Required Navigation Performance) roundtrip flight. Required Navigation Performance is a new flight system that uses GPS to enable more direct flight routes which will reduce carbon emissions and save fuel. “In support of the FAA's Roadmap for Performance-Based Navigation, Southwest is investing $175 million during this six-year project to implement RNP procedures, retrofit aircraft, and train its Pilots.” Southwest’s goal is the first airline to use RNP on all flights.

Instead of grounding the planes until inspection could be completed, Southwest Airlines continued to fly the planes. In addition, evidence has came forward that indicates that Southwest was working with FAA agents to keep their error unknown. Currently, the Federal Aviation Administration is fining Southwest Airlines $10.2.

He was then put on a series on non direct flights leaving his family unaware of his location or safety. The Southwest claimed that their flight attends did not know he was autistic and apologized to the man and his family.
