Tell Airlines to Increase Their Recycling!
 Airlines are only recycling a fraction of the waste generated on flights, resulting in hundreds of millions of pounds of waste going to landfills. Join us in encouraging 11 major airlines to reduce their waste and recycle more of it.
Your signature will be added to letters to executives at the following airlines: AirTran, American Airlines, British Airways, Continental Airlines, Delta Airlines, Jet Blue, Southwest Airlines, United Airlines, US Airways, Virgin America, Virgin Atlantic.

Subject: Please increase your airline's recycling
Dear Airline Executive:
As an airline passenger who cares about the environment, I would like to see your airline increase your recycling efforts.
The airline industry as a whole generates 880 million pounds of waste annually from US airline passengers, with half of this coming from in-flight waste. While 75 percent of this waste is recyclable, only about 20 percent ever is recycled. Clearly more needs to be done.
I'm urging your airline to do its part.
First, decrease the waste generated on flights by reducing packaging and materials.
Second, increase the amount of recyclable and/or compostable materials on your flights.
Third, increase your reuse of materials on flights (including headsets and magazines).
Fourth, educate your airline crews and passengers to take part in recycling.
Fifth, work towards recycling or composting over 70 percent of the remaining waste on your flights.
The above goals are entirely doable. I urge your airline to work with Green America to meet these goals. I understand that Green America will be tracking the progress of the industry and will report out on which airlines are taking steps to improve their recycling and other means of reducing waste that goes to landfill. As an airline passenger, I will be very interested to see the progress that your airline makes in reducing the waste you send to landfill.
